GTA 6 PC version could come mid-2027, Pachter says

Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter told BBC News that GTA 6 will reach PC six to seven months after its November 19 console launch. No PC version is announced.

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has put a rough date on the GTA 6 PC version that Rockstar still hasn't announced. Speaking on BBC News on October 27, he said the game will come to PC about six or seven months after it launches on consoles. Counting from the November 19 console release, that points to somewhere around May or June 2027.

Pachter made the comment on the BBC's Business Today bulletin during a segment about what GTA 6 means commercially, according to GTA BOOM. In a clip of the interview shared on social media, he says that "in about 6 or 7 months" the game "will come to PC."

What Pachter actually said

Pachter's wider point was about consoles, not PC. He stressed that GTA 6 isn't a PlayStation 5 exclusive, even though much of the marketing leans heavily on Sony, and that it is also coming to Xbox Series X|S. As LevelUp reports, he argued that Sony's current sales boost comes from people who need a console to play the game at launch. GTA BOOM says the segment also mentioned a reported 22 percent jump in PS5 sales tied to the game.

He didn't say what his PC estimate is based on. LevelUp notes that he gave no further detail and suggests treating the forecast with caution. Pachter comments on release windows and gaming stocks for a living, so this is an informed guess, not inside information. He has got some calls right over the years and plenty wrong.

How it compares with other reports

The only firm dates are the console ones. Rockstar and Take-Two have confirmed November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and have said nothing official about a PC version, let alone a date. For the full history of delays, see our GTA 6 release date timeline.

Pachter's window is also a little later than an earlier report. In early October, GamesBeat said four industry sources familiar with Rockstar's plans pointed to a PC release in the first quarter of 2027, which would be roughly two to four months after the console launch. The two estimates don't match, and nobody outside Rockstar can yet say which is closer.

A few other voices have joined in. Journalist Andy Robinson has suggested, without offering evidence, that Rockstar wants to bring the PC version forward because of the current hardware crunch, which has pushed up prices and caused shortages. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said before that the company's core audience is on consoles, which is why those platforms come first, but that PC keeps growing in importance for the business. We've rounded up more of his remarks in our Strauss Zelnick explainer.

What it means for PC players

If either estimate is right, PC players would wait far less than usual. Grand Theft Auto V reached PC about 19 months after its console debut, and Red Dead Redemption 2 took around 13 months. Every modern GTA has reached PC eventually, so a port is a reasonable expectation. The open question is timing.

For now, anyone who wants to play on day one needs a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. That is exactly the console boost Pachter was describing, and it ties into Sony's marketing push covered in our PlayStation deal explainer.

Until Rockstar or Take-Two say something on the record, treat every PC date, Pachter's included, as speculation. Take-Two's earnings calls and Rockstar's post-launch updates are the most likely places for a real announcement.
