GTA 6 on PS5 Pro: no footage or 60fps promise weeks before launch
IGN Brasil notes GTA 6 has only been shown on a base PS5 at 30fps, and Sony's Enhanced for PS5 Pro badge still comes with no details weeks before launch.
Reported. Established outlets report this. Rockstar hasn't said so.

Anyone who bought a PlayStation 5 Pro to play Grand Theft Auto 6 still doesn't know what the extra money gets them. In an analysis published on October 31, IGN Brasil says every piece of GTA 6 footage Rockstar has released, including last week's launch trailer, was captured on a standard PS5. Neither Sony nor Rockstar has said what the Pro version adds. The outlet's view is that 60 frames per second looks unlikely when the game launches on November 19, but that the Pro should still offer the cleanest-looking console version.
A badge without details
According to IGN Brasil, the GTA 6 page on the PlayStation Store now shows Sony's official "Enhanced for PS5 Pro" badge. The PlayStation features page for the game, however, doesn't mention a 60fps mode. The outlet also says the footage released so far runs at a locked 30fps.
That matters because people are already buying the hardware. IGN Brasil reports that demand around GTA 6 has caused PS5 shortages in France, with the Pro hit hardest. It lists the Pro at €899.99. With less than three weeks until launch, many of those buyers are paying top price without having seen the game run on the console.
To be clear, none of this is an official statement on performance. Rockstar and Sony haven't announced frame rate or resolution targets for either PS5 model. The analysis below is IGN Brasil's reading of the hardware.
Why the processor is the sticking point
IGN Brasil's case rests on the CPU. The PS5 Pro's graphics chip is a big step up, with 67% more compute units and rendering that is 45% faster, the outlet says. The CPU is a different story. It still uses AMD's Zen 2 architecture, and its clock speed rises only about 10%, from 3.5 GHz to 3.85 GHz.
In a game like GTA 6, the CPU tracks thousands of pedestrians, vehicle physics, traffic and dynamic weather. At 30fps it gets roughly 33.3 milliseconds to do that work for each frame. At 60fps that drops to about 16.6 milliseconds. Lowering the resolution helps the GPU but doesn't reduce the simulation load. So, IGN Brasil argues, a 10% clock bump can't double the frame rate on crowded Vice City streets. The outlet adds that Rockstar has always put open-world density ahead of frame rate on consoles.
What the Pro could still bring
IGN Brasil says the Pro purchase isn't wasted, and lists the improvements it expects. These are the outlet's predictions, not announced features:
- Sharper image: Sony's AI-based PSSR upscaling could take a native 1440p image to a clean 4K output, with finer detail in foliage and city textures.
- Better ray tracing: higher-quality reflections on cars, windows and water across Leonida.
- A possible 40fps mode: on 120Hz TVs, a mode with a 25-millisecond frame time could sit between 30 and 60fps, giving smoother motion without losing stability.
What's still unconfirmed
So far the "Enhanced" badge is the only official word on the Pro version. Rockstar could explain the Pro modes before November 19, or players may only find out on launch day. Rockstar has also said the game was still being tweaked in the final weeks, so nothing about the final settings is locked from the outside. If high frame rates are a must for you, the wait goes beyond consoles: analyst Michael Pachter thinks a PC version could land in mid-2027. Whichever PS5 you have, it's a good idea to plan for the reported 210 GB download before release night.
